OUR HISTORY
The cemetery is much older than the Church. The land was donated by the Hedge Family. The western two sections were returned later.

Graves from Port Hoover were re-interred here after their Church was closed and taken across the Lake to be used as the Head Indigenous Church on Scugog Island. It was customary in those days for the Indigenous people to visit their friends on the mainland. In true Indigenous fashion, smoke signals on the north side would signal that a canoe would pick up the visitors. In the winter, they walked across. Legend has it that Gillson's Point was the site of important battles between Indigenous peoples and new settlers. This fact is further evidenced by the finding of numerous momentos of arrowheads and crude stone hatchets on the Gillson farm.

Robert Moase of Port Perry gave the cemetery board $1,000.00, with the interest to be used for upkeep. Wilber Couch gave $500.00 for the same purpose. Mr. G. Beacroft gave money for trees to be planted. This was done by Lloyd Hawkins and Gordon Gilson, but due to a very dry season and water shortages, most of these trees died.

In 1967 Mrs. Ray Brokenshire, Mrs. Arthur Hill and Mrs. Lawrence Gillson planted an ornamental Crab Tree. For years, the Ladies Aid worked up and planted flowers in two cemetery beds.

During the 1930's, the cemetery was thoroughly gone over, the stones removed, and the ground levelled.
With the cemetery map to proceed by, all stones were straightened and placed in upright positions.

Another fast cleanup job took place in the Spring of 1947. Three old trees were cut down as they were shedding branches all over, making it difficult to cut the grass. The Gillson Brothers brought their drag saw outfit and cut the huge trees. Owen Sweetman, with his tractor and stoneboat, drew the blocks behind the Church to be split later for firewood. Mr. Marvin Hill used his saw to good advantage in regard to the limbs. In place of the old board fence, a piece of woven wire, donated by Arthur Hill, was put in its place. Besides these men who gave their time were Austin Mortimer, Isaac Hill, Ellis Hill, Howard Foster and Andrew Nicholls.

For years, the Nicholls Family donated baskets of flowers for Decoration Day.

Two extra acres of land have been added to the cemetery within the last few years.

May the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit rest upon us and all our work and worship done in His Name. May he give us light to guide us, courage to support us and love to unite us now and forevermore - Amen
